[Grammar note] -인분 vs -개 meaning in Korean

1. "-인분" (serving/portion)

👉 Used to indicate the amount of food for a person

  • It refers to the portion size meant for one person.
  • Mostly used when ordering food at a restaurant.
  • Example: "삼겹살 2인분 주세요." → "Two servings of samgyeopsal, please." (Enough for 2 people)

2. "한 개" (one piece/unit)

👉 Used to count individual items

  • Can be used for both food and objects.
  • Example: "사과 한 개 주세요." → "One apple, please."

Comparison Examples

🍜 "짜장면 1인분 주세요." → "One serving of jjajangmyeon, please." (A portion for one person)
🍏 "사과 한 개 주세요." → "One apple, please." (Refers to a single apple)
